Or are there any treatments that might help? Surgery doesn't sound likely and the injections don't offer much relief. Walking, standing, stairs are just too painful.

The thing is that you need to find the reason for the bursitis. Have you seen a rheumatologist? If not, get a referral, as bursitis is among the constellation of arthritis problems. A complete and proper diagnosis is the first step in working with your health care team to find the optimal, for you and for now, combination of management modalities. And, of course, repeated cortisone injections in the same area are going to cause you far more problems than anyone ever wants to have.

As well, if you have had this pain for more than 6 months, it's referred to as chronic pain and you should ask about a referral to a pain clinic. But go with the rheumatologist first.

My doctor told me, that after exhausing all other treatments, injections is the only thing that could possibly help. I empathize with you.
