No. I use to want to take charge of it myself. It destroys you because it is bitterness and anger. (1)God took the bitterness (2) even though satan would love to bring a root of it back and tries to do that nearly every day. (3)
Now I wait and let God take care of it because vengeance is His (4)and because justice is for Him to make my enemies to be at peace with me (5)and He works all things for my good if I love Him and since I do and am called according to His purpose, (6) that is the road I have to follow. Sometimes it's a heavy cross to carry (7) but His grace is sufficient. (8) I don't feel I'm to the place yet that I could be tortured and forgive my enemies (9) while it was happening like Christ and Stephen and others did (10) but then again, He gives grace in the hour we need it not before.

All revenge does is get you more involved in the chaos and drama of the situation. If you truly want to feel better, the only way is forgiveness. When you let go of obsessing about revenge and hurt, it ceases to control you. That's the best revenge of all!

Most Preachers never give a sermon on Jesus' answer to your question. Why not? They would lose most of their congregation. Most people think there are times in their lives when they do not have to forgive. They actually feel they deserve to hold a grudge.

But Jesus was very clear.

"Forgive others. If you do not forgive others, then, your father in Heaven will not forgive you."

How much more clear could Jesus have been?

Do we call ourselves "Christians"? Then we must follow Jesus' instructions. (Sure, we make mistakes. But, holding a grudge is a premeditated sin, and confessing it does no good.) You must remove that grudge. Jesus' words ; not mine.

(How does anyone think they are going to Heaven by following Pauls plan, and ignoring Jesus?)

added:

"necro" has a point. We should punish or kill that rapist. But not out of revenge. Prevention is a lot different than revenge. We are only human, but we must learn to forgive. Why? Cause Heaven is a place for harmony-loving people. To prove you have been re-born into a harmony-loving person, you must not hold a grudge.

That's the problem of ignorance people. They would start revenging for whatever reason they could think of, and even start a war by using the name of so call 'god'.

No, it is better to let go of the hurt that you are feeling, and trust in God that things will get better. Pray that God helps you to release all that negativity, then pray for the person that hurt you. Pray that God will help them, working on their hearts so that they might come to know Him, and not hurt anyone else. You'll be surprised at how at peace you will feel after you do that. God bless.

For the most part, no, I don't think it's worth it. The negativity that you put into getting revenge only makes you more miserable in the long run. The momentary "Gotcha!" isn't worth that.

Besides, Nemesis is so much better at it than I could ever hope to be, so I try to leave it to Her.

To be covered in the blood of my enemies and to drink their life is my most primitive desire, for I revel in my own strength and my own ideas of right and wrong, however, to keep in check the animal within, a mantra of: "Revenge is Mine, sayeth the Lord" helps somewhat. I think I'd be in jail 10 times over if not for this.

Revenge actually hurts you more than the potential victim you are targeting.

Revenge is pointless in most cases. I try to live and let live. I don't believe in God.
