Because God is the source of all provisions. When God means sell out that means you make it available to Him to give your time, your goods, or what finances He's blessed you with to meet the needs of your neighbor. You must not neglect to provide for your family first. We are instructed not to give until we become a burden to someone else but from what we have and what God lays on our hearts, generously and cheerfully in charity.
He filled the widows empty barrels, He fed Elijah with ravens, He fed mannah and quails and provided water in the wilderness for the Israelites, why not trust Him? He owns the cattle on a thousand hills so there's more where that came from and if you give it up, then great is your reward in heaven. Those treasures you lay up in heaven will not ever be corrupted. Freely we have recieved of God's blessings, freely we should give and that doesn't require money to share the gift of healing or the message of salvation which is preached to the poor and free to all men.

that is not required.
here is what God says is required:
John 3: The Words of Jesus Christ (God in the flesh)
3. "Verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
4. Nicodemus saith unto Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"
5. Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God."
6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
16. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18. He that believeth on Him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

What God are you talking about. He wants you to put Him first. If Money is first in your life that better to sell everything than to perish without God. Get the analogy?

Well, think of it this way, what do you really have anyway? Just kidding. For real, this is a metaphor, all too often not understood from new Bible readers.
