I took me dog to the vet 2 weeks ago and they took a cell sample from the lump. The vet said she thinks it is just fatty cells and sent me home with anti-inflammatories and told me to bath it. I did this for 4 days like I was told and the lump did not change. The vet told me they have to do a biopsy. Does anyone know what he could have?

Retrievers commonly get what is called a lipoma-- its a benign tumor made of fat cells. If it's this large, you may want to have it removed. Usually these tumors are encapsulated and fairly easy to remove, but the vet probably wants to check that it isn't cancerous. The lump wouldn't change in a matter of a few days, and the treatments were just to alleviate the discomfort.

It's most likely a lipoma, which is a benign fat deposit, esp if he's overweight-- they are VERY common in big labs. Even thought these are benign, they can get big enough to cause problems, for instance, if it makes it hard for him to walk. They are a pain to remove, because it leaves a big space that has to have a drain put in, so you dog drops bloody fluid around the house for a few days and has to wear an e collar (one of those lampshade things). So if it is starting to bother him, the sooner you get it taken off the better. Good Luck!!

It may be a lipoma, or fatty tumor. They are not all that dangerous, but they do bother the dog if the get too big or are in a bothersome area. I would ask you vet about having it removed, because they do not go away on their own.

It could be a fatty tumor. My golden retrievers have a few in different places. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get it checked, though. Better safe than sorry...

Probably a benign tumor, or perhaps just a benign cyst. Just wait for biopsy results.

Sound like a tumor. If it is on the leg he should be okay. Hope everything goes well.

to be honest its hard to say. it could be a benign tumor, or could, unfortunately, be cancerous. all you can do is pray. if you believe in God, just talk to him and ask him to protect your dog. just talk about how much you love him, and ask that God be with you in this process. he will hear your prayers. i wil pray for you as well!

It could be anything. Hopefully just a cyst. I said a doggie prayer, that she will be ok.
