If i want to have the wedding in october when should i have an engagement party?

you should have the engagement party like a montha and a half before i had mine like that and it was very good with the planning and stuff.......

Have the engagement party as close to the time you got engaged, to make it separate from the wedding. I'm doing mine 6 weeks after we got engaged. By the time you really get to planning your wedding you probably won't want to throw an engagement party because you'll be busy.

First off Id like to say that pie girl is a goober.. most couples nowadays have to pay for their own wedding.. only very wealthy parents pay for the whole wedding.. jeeze.
Anywho - your question. Your engagement party should be soon after youre engaged. If youve only been engaged for like 6 months or something - dont bother with one. An engagement party is to celebrate your engagement, its entirely seperate from your wedding.

We had a party in January to announce our engagement to friends and got married less than 2 years later. I think it should be more than 6 months before the wedding otherwise it's overkill and people will tire of your faces :)

I think that you should do it now or never b/c you need to start planning your wedding if you dont want to have a rush,rush on it.At this point, the engage. party is to let everyone know that he wants to marry you and then, you start the planning. Asking the girls to be your b-maids and stating to look for vendors and so-on.

Whenever some of your family or friends hold it for you. Really, throwing your own engagement party is as embarassing as paying for your own wedding.
