Those who believe in the bible say that there is nothing for us to learn about the universe. That they, the authors, knew more about the world than we do today. If that is the case, how do you explain technology or science or computers. If we stopped learning and understanding the world back then, we would already have been extinct.

Isn't it better to understand the world for yourself? Or to just blindly follow an ancient book? I fear for our future because I know most of you who answer this would say that all the knowledge is indeed completed.

It doesn't matter what they say - the more advances that are made in science, the less need there will be for the "god of the gaps". Plenty of people get through life just fine without the Bible.

While I think it's probably just literalists who conceive of the Bible in that way (and one would hope that none of them use anything but Iron Age technology, and speak only Aramaic, Greek, or Hebrew), you're making a valid point in that the world continually changes, no matter how much of an effort some people (Church fathers come to mind) protest that values that were honored 1500 years ago (because most morality, and even most practiced tenets of Christianity, stem not from that which Jesus practiced, but that upon which some theologians decided in the early Middle Ages) must still remain the same today. Were that true, women would never be where they are today, not to mention those of other ethnicities... etc. Anyway.
That's a bit rambling, but I see your point and I hope you see mine. Yes, we are continually learning - much of the knowledge that has accumulated in the last 500 years has been part of what has led Western society to question its religious foundations in the first place (thankfully). Well, that and the World Wars.
Anyway - rally on. Think for yourself.

Well this is a Good question and Yes it is better to learn the world for yourself. The bible was wrote to let all know what to expect out of life and to let us know that we are not alone in this world of dis-function and don't worry there is always help just ask other that follow the book. The Bible has many answers. Although God gave us Free-Will and the rest is up to us to Determine.

Your impression of those that follow the bible is seriously flawed. Yes, the bible tells us of things that have happened or may happen. But, we are all given free will to explore this universe for ourselves. It's God's gift to us, and we've used it to find incredible things throughout history. If there are people that follow the bible as sole explanation of everything, they are few and far between. In our world, it's very hard to not get other things wrapped up in our explanations of life and history.

Where did you come up with a silly notion like that?
The Bible is not intended to be primarily a book about science. It makes no claims to be exhaustive in its scope.
What it discloses is the necessary information on how Man can be reconciled to His Creator, from whom he has greatly strayed.
Many great scientists were, and are believers.

Knowledge in this world is not even close to the truth, it is only others perspectives estimating what they think the truth is.
