he flips out whenever I put my hand in the cage, and my goal for this year is to earn his trust so I can let him out of the cage(in my room with his wings clipped) and be able to easily put him back in

I cant not reach into the cage, cause I cant let the bird come out because my room is not ready for him and we have way to many animals out and if he got out there are so many places he could get into

If you cannot open the cage yet, then just start with spending time around his cage and talking to him. Put your hand on the top of the cage for a few minutes - unless he freaks out, then back off. Try moving the cage to a place in the house where people often hang out (put the other animals such as cats and dogs away for this) and keeping him there for an afternoon or evening.

This whole process of taming a bird will take a lot of time - I expect 3 months at a minimum, to a year or two at the most. At least the slow process will allow you the time to clean your room and figure out how to keep the other pets out of the room!

Put the bird in the room you spend the most time in. Put the cage next to where you sit and do what you always do. Talk to the bird soothingly and open the cage every day. You can gently put your hand in the entrance of the cage and wait for the bird to investigate it and he may even hop on after a while. Just remember to do this a lot and to not rush. This could take a lot of time before he even comes near your hand.

Hi there. Get your room ready first. Use patience, patience and more patience. Perhaps the environment is too noisy. Play soft music and have the bird come to you with the cage door open. Use a keyword and a treat and sit there and wait. Do this frequently everyday. There is no instant trust with birds. Have a tweet year.

I also gave up on the hand in the cage thing. I read in a book that if you hold the bird close to you and let it go from one hand to another that they will gain your trust. So I just grabbed my bird and held him (be careful not to squish or harm them in anyway).

He then realized after doing this for a while that I would not hurt him. So then I worked on doing step up I was then able to place my finger and the bottom of his belly and gently push and he would "step up". It took a little while for him to be able to move on my finger.

My bird now knows how to shake hands and turn around. He also knows his right and left.

some birds never get hand tame.
always talk quiet, never upset the bird. let him see your hand through the bars and try to give treats through the bars.
the cage is their home and can you imagine how you would feel if a giant hand came through your window.
i have love birds, they hate hands, other than that once i started letting him out of the cage he is friendly as hell, no hands tho.
wait and see how he is when you start leaving him out.
have a treat plate for him. little bits of things he likes for when he starts getting out of the cage. and when you start letting him out, be prepared that it will take him time to figure out that he has to go back into the cage. it will take time but it will work out. just don't loose your patience.

Always be really loud and move around a lot making big gestures. Leave the room, turn out the lights and let him get settled down. Then run into the room, yelling and gesturing and turn the lights back on suddenly. This will work, I know it.
