Out of bounds is term used to describe when the volleyball has illegally exited the playing field. This most commonly occurs after a hit or serve when the ball lands outside the volleyball court's lines. An out of bounds call can also be made if the ball hits the ceiling then crosses the net before a member of the opposing team touches the ball. Another out of bounds call can be made if the ball, at anytime touches the antennae, the portion of the net outside the antennae, the net's poles, the ref stand or causes a player to leave the field of play to contact the ball. In addition out of bounds refers to a ball that goes around the antennae even though it may re-enter the court. Out of bounds can also be called if a player other than those designated to be on the court touches the ball in the course of play (as long as it is not interference).

The ball has landed outside of the specified area of play. Typically this is used for the 30 x 60 court (the boundary lines), but in some gyms, it is meant to designate where the ball can legally be played.
If the ceiling is a certain height, then when the ball touches the ceiling, it is considered out of bounds. The same goes for a certain perameter around the court. If it goes into the bleachers/seating, it is considered out of bounds.

"Shag" simply means to get the ball. So say you're doing a serving drill and your team is lined up all on one endline. After all the balls are served over and you have no more left, she will probably yell, "Shag the balls!" She means to get all the balls and return them to the cart or whatever you use to contain the volleyballs. And note- shagging is done at a run, or at the very least a jog. Many times we've had to do punishment drills for walking to shag balls before we learned!

it means that the ball went past the bounderies.
so where ever the big square is that you play in, if the ball goes out, it is out of bounds.
