lets say, you have AIDS(or any other life threatining disease...i'm no expert just pretend you have one) and you are certain you will be dead within days/weeks and it's painful, or unpleasent to stay in a hosspital until you die. Would lethal injection be a choice for someone like that. In my opinion i'd much rather die and get it over with than be depressed or in pain for days. Let me know if that's even possible, or if you'd consider doing it.

Unfortunately, this country has laws against euthanasia. You have the legal right to refuse treatment that could prolong your life, but you can not end it voluntarily. In many cases, death is preferable to unabated suffering without any chance of getting better. It seems ridiculous to me that there should be laws against something that affects no one outside of the sick person and his family. We treat our house pets more humanely by allowing euthanasia when the only other option is a slow, painful, undignified death. There are groups trying to change this law, and even many doctors support euthanization for the terminally ill that request it. Dr. Jack Kevorkian was sentenced to prison for his works of kindness in allowing the terminally ill to die in a humane, dignified manner.

Unfortunately, in the USA it is illegal to have what is known as "assisted suicide", where the doctor is allowed to give you an overdose so that you can pass away.

Mostly this stems from the religious belief that suicide is a cardinal sin. Therefore, doctors assisting you are committing murder.

Living wills are often no protection, as it takes very little in many cases for a family to overturn a person's wishes. Just as it is absurdly easy for a family to say "my may have signed an organ donor card, but I say they aren' donating any organs" and the hospital is no longer able to observe the patient's wishes.

Our nation is just a little backwards on certain issues. Pesronally, if I am suffering from a terminal illness and in great pain (such as bone cancer), I want to have a relatively peaceful and painless way out. I'm not looking to be a martyr.

I'm not in that position, but I do know that if anyone decided to take a lethal injection, the media would find out and the Christians would THROW A FIT. If I were in that position, I think I'd commit suicide my own, unpainful way, where I can die how and exactly as a I want to, without having to deal with the hospital.

People with a terminal condition usually get treated with hospice care in the home. The person will be given medication to keep them in as little pain as possible. This is a very peaceful way for people to reach the end of their life. It's not legal for a medical doctor to assist a person with suicide even when there's no hope of their survival.

Until you reach this point in your life you don't know how you will feel about ending your life. Many people reach this stage and are at peace about the end. No one wants to suffer. If you would like more information about this talk with your medical doctor. They can give you detailed information about health care for the terminally ill.

That debate is ongoing in many states which began with the suicide machine invented by Dr. Jack Kevorkian of Royal Oak, Mi.

Jack is a pathologist who invented a device to assist terminally ill patients with their own death before they reach the point of suffering due to their illness. He has helped up to 100 people die peacefully. The state of Michigan passed a law against assisted suicide but Jack continued to fight the law with more assistance until the State of Michigan finally put an end to it and imprisoned him for murder in 1998. He is scheduled to be paroled this year.

The only state to offer assisted suicide is Oregon which passed the law in 1994 and has been upheld to this day.

I agree with assisted suicide and do not agree the Government has the right to tell me how to die. I am sick and tired of government involvement to adults who can decide their own path in life without harming others. If I were to have a terminal illness and sought assisted suicide, I should be able to do so without government involvement. Until the battle has been won in other states, you can go to Oregon to be assisted with your death.

a doctor can not give you a lethal injection...that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but it is illegal. Remember Dr. Cavorkian (no idea how to spell that.) I think some nurses and Drs were brought up on charges after hurricane Katrina also.

You're talking about Euthanasia.
It may be legal in some countries (Netherlands for one), but it's still illegal in the U.S.
People still manage to do it...but it's the survivors that assist with this that pay the consequences. (Legally, emotionally, spiritually, etc.)

i be attentive to this, that is in case they get a final minute reprieve, while the needle is in and it gets stopped, to end the prisoner getting any ailment led to via grimy needles and can sue.
