I am a Bush supporter for the most part. He has taken a lot of heat due to the lies and distortions of the truth spread by the liberal media and their, typically, Democratic brethren.
However, be that as it may, no, a draft would not be a good idea in present circumstances. It was a viable option used well in WW2 when the country was united against a common and imposing enemy. It was again used well when fighting the spread of communism in Southeast Asia because we were once again fighting a common purpose.
However, since Vietnam we have become a country of mostly cowardly people who do not believe in strength and standing up for righteousness. The ones that do believe in such ideals already serve or have served in the military. These are the people I want protecting my back in a battle.

No, because it would bring people into the service who are not mentally up to the job. One reason our casualty rate in Iraq is so low is because the people in todays military are all volunteer, whereas in Vietnam you had people being drafted who were not ready to fight, and this put an undue burden on the real fighters out in the field having to put up with the slackers, and protecting them too.etc. No where is it written, in the bible or the U.S. constitution that life is supposed to be fair. The Democrats want to bring the draft back to make it fair. (socialism) Whereas the Republicans believe that individual choice is what makes America great, and the ones doing the fighting should be the ones who have made the choice to do so. A military draft is one of the democrats idea because it imposes political control over the people. They think what makes America great is its government and the government should be in charge of the peoples choices in life. The republicans on the other hand, thier political philosophy is that America is great because of our individual freedoms and the power of choice. Now maybe armed with that information you can decide for yourself if the draft is a good idea. For me I will vote for neither next election, I will vote libertarian.

DumDum is Dumb the democrats are the ones that are supporting the draft. Look it up. The draft is a good idea if we are in a major world war like WW1 or 2 when we needed the man power. But other than that no. We have a awesome a voluntary Military. They are what make this country so great. True Americans

I don't think that is fair. If someone is against the war and doesn't want to go into the military and is definitely not a killer type guy. I know some who work in offices and I have to kill spiders for him. I would be more of a soldier than he is.
If someone volenteers knowing what he is in for then okay.
We can live with that. But to force someone to do something they clearly do not believe in is morally wrong.
No big man in the White house who is the decision maker for the rest of the world. Has the right to decide who lives or dies.

It all depends on the angle of the observer. On one hand it does help diversify the enlistee to included all able bodied males. This allows for a good distrubution of responsibility to defend our country and its military efforts. From another angle, it places people into the military that may not want to fight. This can cause problems on the battlefield and can cause a greater loss of life. However, this current talk of reinstating draft for Iraq war is political posturing. Both sides are trying to call each others bluffs.

I don't support a military draft, however I agree with the fact that a draft will never happen again because we always have people who don't know what to do, so they join the military.

no question. Bush has already pressed contemporary troops into double and triple excursions, pulled retired infantrymen out of retirement (even i did no longer be attentive to that they might do this) plus sending the national look after too. he's attempting mightily to no longer initiate the draft returned whilst he remains in workplace. does no longer look good for Repubs in next election. After he's exhausted, depleted or killed our contemporary infantrymen, he would be compelled to withdraw from Iraq besides. while you're of defense force age or would be in 2 years, and don't want to be drafted, make your plans now.

No. If there was a draft all the actors would have a reason to protest.
