My ex-wife and I were divorced 2 weeks ago and in the divorce decree I get our 5 year old male doberman and she gets our 8 year old female doberman.

The female is very indipendent and doesn't favor us any different. Our male really likes me. You could say he is my dog.

We got both dogs when they were puppies and they grew up with each other.

I really want to take him but should I? Any suggestions?

Thanks

i think you should, what are you afraid of? your dog missing eachother? they'll get over it. the question is do you want your dog, are you still able to watch over him when you take on this new single life.

I think you should take your dog, if she gets the female then I don't see why it would be a big deal, beside if he favors you and you leave him behind he might start having problems. You can always drop it off at her house on some days and get to see the other one also depending on your relationship right now and in the future.

I think the answer is more about how the dogs interact. If the female really feels similarly about both of you, then take into account what the relationship between the two dogs is. If the dogs are close keep them together. If they seem to get jealous or fight often, let them have their one doggy household attention.

i think it's really nice of you to think about your dog in this way. why don't you try taking him...and see how he does. perhaps if you are interested, your dogs could serve as a way for your ex wife and you to work on some sort of friendship...or at least be nice to each other...and let the dogs meet at the park or something. perhaps it won't bother your dog at all, but maybe it will and you should be prepared to work a situation out so the dogs can see each other.

Think about your most vulnerable dog. The independent dog will be able to cope easier than your most vulnerable dog. Should that vulnerable dog become depressed without the other dog, then you should have the two of them together. If that dog is depressed without you, you should be with the dog.

Since he is your dog at heart, I think you should take him and see how he and the female do apart.

As long as you and your ex have the time to devote to keeping the dogs from getting lonely, you should be okay.

Based on the dogs' personalities, I think they should adjust well.

Good luck to you, and I hope this helps. :)

if the dogs are dependant on each other i woudl leave them together, but if they arent you should take him, i lived in another country from my partner for almost a year and i took half of our dogs with me, and they did fine away from him.

IF HE LIKES YOU A LOT THEN HE WILL DO JUST FINE. JUST TREAT HIM LIKE YOU DID BEFORE THE DIVORCE.
