My 4 wheel drive selection seems to either half enqauge or stick in a position.

Is it the Electronic outer module by the Trans case that is causing this?

It can be caused by the electric shift motor failing, or worn out plastic bushings on the selector fork inside the transfer case causing enough slack so as not to fully engage.

I wanted to point out that for those of you with a 4X4, you should put the car in 4X4 mode at least once a month to that the gears don't "seize up".

Also never drive on the dry pavement with 4X4 engaged. You will only tear up the transfer case as well as the road and it's illegal in some jurisdictions.

Have someone help you with this problem. slide under the truck and have someone shift the different selections. You should hear and even feel (with your hand) the motor shifting the selector fork. If you hear the motor running, remove it and make sure indeed it is turning the as it should. If the motor is not kicking on, it can be as simple as replacing the shift motor, or it may be the switch. Good luck.

If that's not the fix then there's a more serious problem with the tranny!
