Braces realign your jaw to a place where the teeth can fit comfortably together, then they reposition your teeth so they are straight. It is moving things out of their natural place, and it can cause a lot of soreness.
Also sometimes wires can poke into your gums or cheeks and the brackets can pinch. If they do, let your dentist know and he'll fix it or give you some wax.

The braces are moving bones (your teeth) that have been set in a certain position for years. If you notice, it only hurts for awhile, then your teeth get accustomed to their new position, and your doctor "tightens" the braces, and the pain comes back. Oh, the memories!!!!!

because braces are forcing bones (your teeth) to move against muscle. i know i wore them for 2 years blah! that would hurt anywhere on your body, especially in your mouth which is such a sensitive place

because you having teeth moved when they are alreay rooted and want to stay right where they are at, so the first couple of days after an adjustment your mouth is sore, but once they go where they are supposed to the pain stops and they settle into their new spot

your mouth has more nerve endings than most body parts. It doesn't take much to aggravate the mouth. Usually in time (which can creep along) the sensation will lesson. Try brushing with desensitizing tooth paste

it's the metal it sometimes scratches the skin off of you're lips (lots and lots of chapstick) i alway hated that. 2nd sometimes the wire in the back scrapes your gums ugh! i hated that too. As unusual as this sounds i LOVED it when they tightened my braces i guess the pain was neutral.

Both, they make it tight so your teeth will move, and when your teeth move it hurts.

braces are shifting your teeth, usually together, so they are actually moving.....that is why it hurts
