ive recently purchased a new computer (end of dec 2006) and it offered a free upgrade to windows vista once it comes out.

ive read a few advantages and some back-drops but im not sure if i should upgrade my windows XP MCE to the new vista.

others say its an overall better user experience. however, it may contain some bugs because it's relatively new and it prevents u from downloading media for the sake of piracy.

i cant seem to decide. i dont want to miss out on the chance of a free upgrade but dont want to risk my computer against potential bugs.

thanks in advance : )

If you use QuickBooks, or own lots of software and hardware, it might be wise to avoid Windows Vista for now. But if you are buying new hardware and/or software, it might be fun. You will learn Vista fairly fast by being an owner.

Many companies are holding off of Windows Vista, until it is clear that all of their equipment and software works properly with it.

Of course, you should get the FREE UPGRADE. Read the terms carefully, so you know how long you can delay the installation.... so you HAVE it.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

For the time being, I'd stick with XP. Vista being so new, most hardware manufacturers are still working out bugs with device drivers. Also, part of the reason Vista was delayed so long was that MS decided to crack down on security with XP. Vista is being criticized for it's overt DRM features, which a lot of multimedia lovers with despise. I'd wait at LEAST another few months before making the switch, if even at all. If possible, see if the free upgrade could possibly be in a dual-boot form so you could test it out, then uninstall and go back to XP with all of your settings and files if you decide against it.

Unfortunately, that is incorrect. Vista is not an update of XP, it is a completely new operating environment. Therefore, potential driver issues are quite possible. In fact, currently about 60% of hardware manufacturers are reporting bugs and issues with device drivers for Vista, so this also rules out the claims by tapoxi.

I would wait a while if you have windows xp, vista is great on new systems but the cost would probaly not be worth it in an older system, if your xp is working good just stick with it for a while.Sorry I did not read your entire question, if it is offered free , I would GET IT!

Well, most of the tech community has been against Vista only because it doesn't offer enough to justify the steep price.

Bug wise, you shouldn't have any problems. Vista has been in public testing for over a year, and was finalized in November. I doubt any major issues will show up now.

So go ahead, take advantage of the offer and upgrade.

a lot of people will say to go ahead and install. unless you're buying a new pc with it already installed i'd stay away from it. someone else wrote that there aren't driver issues. there are plenty of driver issues. Every time there is a new OS there are driver issues. Check out this link, which also provides links to problems that other people are having with it so far. in a month or two vista is going to be great though.

the common abode laptop has greater artwork to do via working abode windows and each and all the extra courses to look after it fairly than particularly doing something functional. i've got examined each and all the betas and the RC1 that those days grew to become obtainable, my innovations are that that is been made as surprisingly as a risk without regard for equipment overhead given which you will basically improve your device to run it. Linux did the attractive element a protracted time in the past, so did MAC OS. You did no longer might desire to enhance your device to run it although. MAC is greater effectual, Linux is greater effectual. I voted for the Linux guy.
