I'd make the argument that the human race has a long time ahead of it, and you never know what they may end up helping/preventing in the time ahead, or have done in the past.

They are evolutionary byproducts, so-called vestigial organs, which once had a purpose in some distant ancestral line, but which have lost their original purpose over time. Tonsils, the appendix, tail bones, nipples in males, leg bones in snakes and whales, etc.

tonsils, appendix, and all those floating little glands in your body are there to assist your immune system. yes we can live without them but your immune system also breaks down so here comes the prescription drugs to help you either fight off infection or to kill off the other major organs in your body (the side effects are sometimes worse than the sickness!!).
