Why do people date?

To find someone to marry.

To not be alone.

To have fun and unwind after a tough week of work/school.

Socially accepted way to behave.

I've always had this in my mind also. The reason people date is cuz i think its the way you get to know each other and halps you understand if thats the kind of person youd like to have stronger feelings for or make the relationship go farther. I still cant figure out if what im doing now with my '"friend" is called dating or what. We've been friends for 6yrs already and he told me he wants something more than that. n when we went out for that first date..he started telling me .. U KNO I DONT THINK U R READY FOR THIS. it made me feel sad cuz i knew i was ready, but of course its hard the first time. hes been just a very CLOSE friend to me. But now i think we got used to it. Even though nothing special happened, not even a kiss. we just hold hands and he treats me really good like im really the one!!!! i can b sure hes really honest about that relationship and still we couldnt believe it happening, but he says thats ALL I WANT WITH YOU NOW..or nothing! i was...suprised!!)

This is from a 25 year-old who has never dated: I think people use the term "date" to describe the idea that they were able to convince someone to spend romantic time with them. So, it's status and the event itself is so that you can spend time with someone you have interest in, a prelude to something more long-term, depending on the outcome of the date, of course.

This is my guess.

People should date to search for their future spouse. Some people abuse dating by trying to show off their boy or girlfriend to others. Dating is a wonderful thing when done in modesty and with good morals.

No matter what anyone says dating in the process of elimination. You date until you find that one person you want to spend the rest of your life with! You can deny it but its the truth. If we were not looking for our soulmate then we would stay home and watch TV and self pleasure ourselves! Dating is the search (intentional or not) for the one you will spend eternity with

Not for the reason you think ,I'm sure .
i never understood why people date .
when they date ,they don't show the real person ,everything seems hunky dory,all the roses,all the chocolates,out to dinner ,good sex ,clean man or woman .
after dating /Marriage . all the nagging ,bitching ,attitudes,no more roses,or chocolates,no sex or 5 minutes wham bam thank you mam,You have to remind to take showers.
No more dating : live with a person before marrying .

People date because some hate being alone. Like me I like t ofall asleep in someones arms and i like knowing im loved and not by my parents but by someone who i can make love with and to make me smile and just be happy.... Thats why i date......
