It could mean a lot but you have to give us more details to tell you what we think it is.
1.) He might like you, so he wants to ask you out.
2.) If you have classes together, maybe his not getting the lecture and your good at the class so he wants to tutoring Or he wants to start a study group.
3.) If he is already your bf, maybe he's trying to break up with you.

he may just want to say hi how are you or ask you out if youre not sure about the guy take a friend with you if things go well im sure your friend wouldnt mind waitin round a corner or something. but shes there to help if you dont feel comfortable or things go wrong.least you can do is see what he wants and settle your mind
