One of my friends has a Howa .308. It's a good rifle. He has killed whitetail deer, wild boars, coyotes, and groundhogs with it, maybe more things that he hasn't told me about, and has never had a problem with the rifle. His favorite bullets in it are 125 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips, but I prefer 150 grain bullets in my 5 .308s, and if you reload try the Hornady 150 grain spbt (cat.# 3033). It's a cheap bullet that is accurate and performs well on deer.

Howa makes a very good gun. They make the Weatherby Vanguard. The 308 is a great round. You made a terrific choice
