I'm interested in the personal experiences that make you feel drawn to your version of God. Or fearful. Or awe struck. Or even intrigued. But they have to be personal, not historical.

Did you research? Did you meditate? Were there other mediums that you use to commune? Perhaps a profound life/death event?

Based on your personal experience, who is God to you?

I have experienced God personally. I don't say that as a boast, but just a simple statement of a fact. Let me share with you.

I was in my early 20's. A wife. A new mother. We all lived in a basement apartment way out in the country, no streetlights, no neighbors within sight. It was about 9:30 pm, and my husband had failed to come home from work, again. He was probably at a bar somewhere. I was walking the floor with my infant daughter, only 4 weeks old.She was screaming in pain again. She had what we would discover later to be severe intestinal problems caused by the contaminated water in the well at our home. If you have ever listened to a baby cry in pain for hours then you have an idea of what I was going through with her.

She could not relax or stop crying, I could not ease her pain. My husband was out drinking away the paycheck, and I needed help! I was desperate to find a way to ease my little daughter's pain! ... to ease the pain in my own heart, Why didn't my husband love me any more? I felt so alone! In that dark basement...no light, no other people, just a little baby screaming, and me holding her, and walking.

Eventually, I could not take another step. I sank to the floor still holding her. She was still crying. By now, I was beginning to cry as well. You might not believe me, but I actually said out loud "God, please help me!"

The next moment will never be erased from my memory. That dark, lonely basement became filled with a warm bright light. I felt .. a Presence who put His arm around my shoulders, and spoke to my heart saying "It's all right, .... I am here." I felt such peace! Such love! He used my name! He knew me! Not just me... my daughter - at the same moment, fell deeply, peacefully asleep in my arms! Totally relaxed and pain free! I could tell by the way she lay in my arms, the look on her face.

I sat there, in the arms of Jesus, I believe. He had the qualities of:
omniscience - he knew everything.
omnipresence - he was there
omnipotence - he had all power
He knew: my name, my fears, my hopes, my failings; There is no doubt - He WAS there! He showed a little of his power when he calmed the hysterical infant, and granted her through His Love and Mercy peaceful sleep. He Gave to me the greatest gift of all - forgiveness. That night I was blessed with comfort, love, peace and hope.

These are the things that God has revealed Himself to be to me. Yet, this is just the beginning of my walk with God.

The Bible says you're not supposed to commune with mediums. You don't want a Bible answer, so you make it hard to answer your question. In my own experience, I find talking with the Lord to ease my mind, make me feel better, and He's my friend, my heavenly father and master. I'm in awe of God every time I look at nature, see a baby, wake up in the morning or read my Bible.

He's a kid with an ant farm.
If the bible is to be believed, god is an eternal being who lived a trillion billion years (multiplied by a trillion billion) before any other sentient being. Eventually he got bored with talking to himself, and decided to make angels. But they just sat around and told him how great he was, and this got boring too. So then he made humans, and at the same time created misery.

Now boring doesn't even enter in to it! There's drama everywhere! So, I guess he's finally getting what he wanted.

I would recommend a practice of meditation combined with the reading of "The Cloud of Unknowing", a 14th century mystic's explanation of the experience you seek.

God does not have characteristics. The characteristics attributed to God are the idols of lore.

I don't accept my experience as normative. The Almighty is who He is, and He has told about Himself in Scriptures. If you choose not to look there, He might not be where you want to find Him. He might, He is that kind of a Loving Father, but I wouldn't want to bet my salvation on it.

God is perfect. If anything is imperfect, it is not God, although He likely made it, as He made everything.
