For little ones i supppose. Spanking is very effective for kids between the ages of 3 and 6. Just give them warnings first. The first time they break a rule tell them no that they shouldnt do it. If they do it again warn them that they are going to get a spanking. If they do it a 3rd time just give them a nice slap on the butt.

I think it's O.K.to give a light swat to get a toddlers attention when it comes to safety issues, but after that I think that time out just sitting quietly in a room close by, not talking is a lot more of a responsible way to discipline. Yes, priveleges can them be taken away, but the point of discipline is to get children to be responsible by themslves.......eventually. Never spank in anger, that is not an adult thing to do, as just using brute force teaches them the wrong thing. Be matter of fact but FIRM. Natural consequences of bad behavior teach children a lot more about the real world. For instance, they are being careless (NOT just an accident), and they spill their milk. That is all they get for that meal.

Only in EXTREME situations. For example: My 4 year old took off running down the sidewalk in Wal-Mart plaza.......while I was holding the 3 month old in the carrier! I could not run after her and was terrified and yelling for her to stop. Some nice guy offered to help me. He picked her up and carried her back for me. I cracked her butt so hard that my hand stung. I know it sounds harsh, but she NEVER ran on me again.
To me that was a huge ordeal. She could have been snatched, hit by a car, or God knows what else. So in this situation, I feel the spanking was warranted. But I had never hit her before that, and I have never hit her since.

Yeah I do but its something that is so hard to regulate. I mean, when I was little and acting like a little ****** my parents would swat me on the rear and I would straighten up. I realized as I grew that they were barely hitting me at all but just sending a message of who's in charge.
You certainly can't hit your kids with the intention of causing them harm but how do you set a standard for that?

At age three my son told me that spanking is hitting.....I told him if he didnt ever diserve one he would never get one.....the only time he ever did was at age 6 running away in a parking lot becuse he saw a toy store...we had a hold my hand rule in parking lots.....age 18 now and the best kid in the world so I would say.......spanking is hitting; try real hard not to do it out of anger, fear or luv.

Yes, I believe in spanking. "talking" and "time out" are ineffective (see teen generation and pre teens now- NOT ALL, but too many of them). The government needs to butt out of this one (no pun intended).

NO, violence never solves anything.
BUT:
Considering how out-of-control today's kids are (ditching, drinking, smoking, drugging, too-young sex, no respect for authority figures)
The law might just have to get back to basics--and let the cops whack the kids. Let's face it--juvie and jail don't teach them anything except how to be worse--parents can't even discipline their kids--so let the cops smack them around.
