no you can not use a store bought egg to put in a incubator the reason is the egg has been put in a frig and has become cold and other reasons over it going through the wash before it arrives at the store. i and my wife has had plenty of chickens in our time plus we have raised many baby chicks. the best thing to do is go to a farm or ask around and see about anyone living close that might have laying hens and get a fresh layed egg or no more then three days old without being put in a frig . that would work also make sure , its alot easier if your incubator has the egg turner thats the way you dont have to turn the eggs yourself.

Only fertile eggs will hatch, which means you need to find a small farmer with a backyard flock and a rooster. The eggs need to be kept warm from the time they leave the hen until you get them into the incubator.
But think ahead. What are you going to do with the chicks that hatch? Do you have a cage for them, and a heat lamp? And feed? Do you know how to care for them? Better do some planning!

LOL! you can use them, but they wont hatch out. Store eggs are NOT INFERTILE. That is why you see a bit of white goo in the eggs sometimes that appears to look like snot. That is the sperm of the male without being fertile before the egg got too cold to hatch. Hens usally do not lay eggs unless there are males or a male around to mate with. Thats why factorys who sell eggs keeps males in with the females 24/7. Once an egg is taken from it's mother and in a factory like those you get from the store, it gets cold and kills anything trying to live inside of it, that is why you never get an egg from the store with a baby chick in it already. After it is chilled or cooled or gets cold it is no good anymore for hatching. You can always place internet ads that you'd like to buy 12 eggs from someone who'd take them out of the nest for you to incubate. And they probly won't charge you alot of money either. Also EBAY sells eggs all the time you could order some, then have them sent to you ready to finish incubating and ready to hatch within days of recieving the eggs.

Store eggs are infertile. Approach your local farm supply store. They can hook you up with fertile chicken eggs or there are many places you can buy them online. The grocery store won't help though.
Do some research and find out what species and variety of bird you want. Chickens, ducks, geese turkeys, quail, emus, ostriches. Guinea fowl are great for eating the ticks in your grass. You can buy fertile eggs of almost any kind of farm fowl you want. You just got to know what you want them for and find the kind of bird that is appropriate for that use.
You might try asking your local agricultural extension office or 4-H club for advice on how to get started.

No, you cant use a normal egg that you buy in a store. Those eggs are NOT fertalized and will NOT hatch. You'll have to order eggs from a website. Here's a site, its a little expensive but you can find others somewhere on the net. http://www.chickeneggs.com/

1) grocery store eggs have not been fertilized, and 2) even if they had been fertilized, being refrigerated would kill any embryo fairly quickly. Actually you can look up "poultry farms" or "live poultry" in the phone book to get a fertilized egg.
And the white thing isn't rooster sperm, it's similar to an umbilical cord, it attaches the embryo to the yolk (which would feed the embryo while in the shell). Sperm is microscopic.

They have to be fertilized and most store bought eggs are not. You will have to get them direct from a farm or a farm supply store that sells livestock.

You can use a store bought egg, it just won't hatch. If you want a chick to hatch out of it it needs to be fertilized.
