Single taxpayers that made at least $8,450 must file a return. However, your social security benefits may not be taxable if your combined income (SS & job) is less than $25,000.
If your only income was from Social Security, then no, your income is not taxable. And are not required to file.

Even if your income was less than filing requirement, you should still file to get back any and all taxes you paid in, plus any credits you may qualify for.

If the $8800 is from social security, then no. If you have income of $8800 in ADDITION to your social security, then you have to file a tax return if you're single and under 65, but not if you're at least 65.
