I like a song called " The Best Is Yet To Come" my favorite version is a 1963 recording by a jazz singer named Nancy Wilson. It is up beat and happy, and peppy and no one else will be singing it, and that will help make you stand out. See if you can find it to download. It's a recognizable song because it's been used recently for a few television advertisements. It has also been recently recorded by Tony Bennet. Have fun with it, it's a fabulous audition song.

Yes, please stay away from Hairspray, Wicked, Rent, High School Musical, Disney, etc. And to the person who said to do a song from one of these shows because the director will know it, please give directors a little more credit!! FIrst off, you don't say what musical you're auditioning for. That will really determine what kind of song you sing, because you want to sing something in the same style. Are you auditioning for Tommy? You want to use a rock song. Auditioning for Godspell? Something more folksy. A New Brain? Use something contemporary. Cinderella? Something classic. You get my drift. So, without knowing the show, I don't want to just list a bunch of songs, but I will say that if you think tons of girls are going to be using popular, contemporary songs, why not go the opposite and something a bit more classic? My Fair Lady, Kiss Me Kate, Gypsy, Anything Goes, Crazy for You and Pal Joey all have great songs that the director will know and will make you stand out because no one else is doing them. Good luck!

Dancin' All the Time from the musical Big
I'll Follow my Secret Heart from the musical Conversation Piece
Look for A Sky of Blue from the musical Little Mary Sunshine
In My Own Little Corner from the musical Cinderella
For auditions you should stay away from songs that are from shows that have been on broadway in the past 5 years.

Try My New Philosophy from You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. It's ubeat, cute, shows some pretty good range, has some high parts, some belt parts. It's great. I sang it for my first professional theater audtition and got the part! I've used it for upeat auditions ever since.
Hope this helps, and break a leg!!

well if you are having a musical tryout i wouldn't reccomned anything pop-ish or cutesy american idol stuff. those are not good tryout songs, a girl with a great voice sang one and she didn't get a part in the musical @ my school
Maybe sing "Bless the Lord my soul" from Godspell upbeat fun song
like that dude said, "Popular" from Wicked its peppy and cute but you don't need a good voice to sing it
"We Beeseech Thee" from Godspell, upbeat ,fun
" All that Jazz" form Chicago, its kind of up-beat
"Amazing Mazie" form Suessical the Musical its a really fun song
"Some people" form Gypsy its fun and upbeat
"Take me for what i am" from Rent its upbeat
"Notice me Horton" from Suessical the musical cutesy and upbeat, fun
can't think of the name of it but its a song form Bye bye Birdie, Kim sings it, well something fomr Bye Bye birdie will be good
"Together Wherever we go" from Gypsy
"Don't nobody bring me no bad news" from The Wiz
"A bushel and a peck" from Guys and Dolls?
