It is possible that, depending upon from where you are downloading your program, the file is compressed in such a way that your computer doesn't recognize the file. Take a look at the suffix of the file. This will give you a clue as to what kind of file it is. Next, download 'Stuffit Expander' and see if that will decompress the file for you.

I have Windows Media Player 9 running on my Mac G5 with the latest version of Mac OSX (10.4.8), so you should be able to get it to work for you, too.

Good luck and keep trying. You'll figure it out, I'm sure.

Don't use WMP 9 for Mac OS X! It is really old, can't play newer files, and is no longer supported by Microsoft. Apple cannot help you with it.

Instead, go to "www.videolan.org/vlc/" (w/o the quotes) and download the VLC Media Player for Macs. It provides the same functionality plus more.

Or, go to "http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx" (again, w/o the quotes) and download the Flip4Mac Quicktime component. This plug-in allows you to play Windows Media Player files in Quicktime. Also, Microsoft officially supports this plug-in.

Well you got further then me, but to my knowledge I don't think MS distributes it anymore. They figured it was better to release the quicktime codec, here it is.
