these aquatic insects are very good fish bait and caught in fast flowing watter. i have probably misspelled the name of these insects and cannot find any refrences to them anywhere

They become the dobson fly, a winged insect. An Internet search for helgramite will lead you to a picture.

they actually will metamorphose into a dobsonfly. These are large winged insects in the order Megaloptera. They are quite spectacular and are one of the largest in North America, the males are most notable for their large crossing mandibles.
