Oh yes. Any browned areas may taste a little "bruised", but it's certainly safe!
If they're totally black with flecks of mold though, I'd pass... :)

In general if the bananas aren't more than a week old and if the skin of the banana is unbroken. Otherwise there could be insect larvae or other sick stuff in there.
A color other than yellow, green, or brown is probably not good. I'd say just don't eat old fruit.

Of course. The bruising is common place when it is transported especially if the distances traveled to get it from the groves to the stores is great. Worse comes to worse, if you open the banana and find "brownish spots" just don't eat that portion.

Of coarse it is,bit you wouldnt want to eat them if they are to brown yuk. When they get too ripe they are best used in banana cake.

yes! my housekeeper is costa rican (major banana-growing country) and she laughs every time we eat yellow or yellow-green non-brown-spotted bananas. you're supposed to eat them when they have brown spots! i never knew this until she told me. the spots don't hurt you - it's only the banana ripening. it tastes sweeter, too...but i still like yellow bananas.

it's ok to eat them when they have a couple of brown spots on them. They actually have a sweet taste then!
