I bought a ragamuffin kitten from a lady who was selling both ragamuffins and ragdolls, and was just wondering if one kind is supposed to be better than the other kind.
I've read that they're two different breeds, but I have also read that ragamuffins can be ragdolls that weren't up to standards. Is that true?

No. Ragamuffins are their own breed, a new breed that was officialized in the 90's by a lady named Ann in California who, from the stray neighborhood cats in her area of Riverside, bred a new breed of cats with certain desirable characteristics. That is why they are called "Ragamuffins" because of their roots as homeless wanderers. As to whether or not one is better, I think is a matter of taste.

Well, congratulations to you :) Just a couple things to add, as it seems as though you have this well thought out. For her scratching post - if you can afford it, a big sturdy piece of cat furniture is even better. Most of the scratching posts that are sold are too small and flimsey for a cat to use, especially one that is going to become a largish cat like a Ragdoll. You have some time, so be on the watch - the big pet stores often have them on sale. Not only will she scratch her claws in it, she will use it to play and excersise on. Be sure to get one with at least one sisal (rope) post. You might want to get one of those cardboard scratch boxes, too - they are sold at Wal Mart and pet stores, and many cats like them very much. And as silly as this sounds - a savings account. If you put away money for her vet bills each month, then when it becomes time to take her to the vet for her check up or even an unexpected illness, then there will be money for it. We don't plan for our pets to become ill or injured, but it can happen no matter what good care we take for them, and it's nice to be prepared! A collar and tag will mess up her pretty fur - you may want to consider getting her microchipped instead. Collars can come off, but microchips cannot. If she were ever to escape outside, the microchip would enable her to be returned to you, which couldn't happen if her collar came off. Ragdolls are beautiful wonderful cats, even though I'm the Siamese lady :) Enjoy!

They are both really 'slinky' cats. I think one is male and one is female, that's all.
