We have book reports about every six weeks in my English class. I don't mind, I love to read. However most of my class only read during book report time (usually the last week) because they want a good grade. They'd rather be going shopping and going to parties than having a quiet time (about an hour or so) reading. I find it really sad, especially since nearly 40% of my graduating class will have a reading level of a fourth grader. This isn't because they don't know how to read, they do, they don't take the time to read. When book report time comes around they get a great grade for a book they read in three minute or got the cliffnotes from the store. This only points out the highlights. When they do read they get bored and never rate a book a ten. They always whine about reading and say it's a waste of time. I can only say if they read then maybe they'd know words like diligence with having the teacher explain it. Or they'd actually know people like Pocohantas were real, and not a

You are right, but you also need to look at how technological the rest of them are. They care about how cool their new cell phone is, or how "hot" a new Ipod is that they want but don't need. Simplicity and reading for the pleasure of it seems to be a thing of the past. Hopefully younger generations will get back into it after seeing how dumb their parents are when it boils down to what they can do without aid from a dictionary or spell check.

It's really sad that know one even discovered that everything they think is a movie and only a movie, can actually be based on a real person.

Know that in 10 years, you will have the knowledge and experience to live in the real world, while they are still trying to figure it out. Trust me. I was in the same boat as you!
