How do I stop my dog from growling at People?

My dog growls at everyone, even some people she has met before. How can I teach her to be more friendly?

Do not use a crate as punishment. A crate should be a safe haven for your dog, a place she can call her own. No negativity should be related to her crate, ever.

When the dog stops growling, wait a few seconds and then reward her. She will eventually understand that she is getting rewarded for NOT growling. You have to be consistant though. This will teach her that it's more beneficial to her to not growl.

Chanting words at your pup, "no....no....no...." will teach your dog to ignore you. If he growls at someone, he gets an all-expenses-paid trip to his crate. Remove the reinforcement immediately for this behavior! You can be quick and decisive about this without being harsh. He may need a few reps of this to "get it" - and don't forget to reward the good behavior that you'd like to encourage! Pay him with great rewards when he doesn't growl (you may need to work on this in a situation where people are not so close. Ask a patient friend to help!)

sounds like she wasnt socialized much as a puppy. reccomend more time around people and gentle corection for growling. i use a soda can with 10 pennies in it to stop barking. when they bark (or growl) when u dont want them to, shake the can. then soon start to associate the noise (which they dont like) with what they are doing.

wen she growls talk 2 her firmaly and tell her not 2! she must be very protective of u!
