I would personally go with the Rubicon. When your spending lots of money wouldnt you like to atleast know You bought the Big Daddy Jeep (top of the line)> That makes guys in other non equiped Jeeps druel. Also if you ever decide to get stupid isnt it nice to know you have lockers and 37:1 crawl ratio? Sahara you will have to at least opt for the traction lok rear diff. Heck I would just make sure you get the dual Top Option and that hopefully one day avail MyGigTm Player(nav radio with 8gig hd space for MP3s... That is just neat. Just make sure you find a dealer who will work with you. dont settle and get what you want.

It is easier to drive a tank on the road than a Caddy over the rocks.
The Rubicon is far FAR better at heavy off roading such as the Rubicon Trail, which it is named after. If you are going to do the really hard off road, you will NEED the Rubicon. But if you just do some trips thru the woods and over some small stuff, the Sahara would work. (But then again, if really want a great off road vehicle, forget the jeep and go buy an Argo.)

the Sahara is like all the stock jeep vehicles very trail worthy
the Rubicon is like the Cadillac of jeeps and for more of the hard core jeepers jeep
if you have the money go for the Rubicon
but if you are just going to hack around on the trails and not go hardcore just go for the Sahara
I own a 05 Rubicon and it is a aw some stock jeep and do not regret the purchase but I do use it hardcore and that is the reason I bought it to save me the hassle of doing all the upgrades myself and have a great starting platform to modify into a better off road machine
so if your wallet is thick go for the Rubicon but you do not need it for just trail riding and hacking around through the woods

Unless you are planning on crawling over rocks, go ahead with the Sahara. On road the front and rear dana 44s, lower gear ratio, and mud tires of the Rubicon will eat away at your gas mileage and with just about any mud tire, wet road traction is going to suck....BAD. The all-terrains, lighter duty shocks, smaller axles, and higher gear ratio of the Sahara will treat you a lot better on road. If you find yourself getting into sticky situations while off road, then go ahead and get a selectable locker in the rear (arb, ox, eaton...). This will keep your on road manners and give you a little more kick off road while costing far less than the $3000 price difference.

Hey, it is 2015. And I am not needing a new Jeep, nor could I afford to buy one now.
From CraigsList, I am buying an old 2000 Sahara, or a 2000 Wrangler Sport. They are priced about $8000 to $9000, used.
Like, why does the rear axel D44 consume more energy? I am not going to climb rock.

Then get the Sahara if you aren't going to do any major offroading. The Rubicon has been modified for severe offroad use, i.e. front and rear lockers, larger tires, slight lift kit, etc. The Sahara is quite capable of moderate offroad use. Even my 96 Grand Cherokee see's its share of offroading every weekend.

No offense here, but anybody who is 'not sure' which will be better and uses words like 'realistically' probably shouldn't be getting the Rubicon.

If u have the money and want a good stock vehicle to off road go with the Rubi. The locker really makes a big difference off road. But it really depends on u, If u want to spend the extra or not.
