My kitten , Bon Bon (six months old, boy), has been throwing up recently, my other kitten, Chata ( about ten months old, girl) also started to throw up. i don't know what to do. They've been throwing up what they eat, it is the same color of their food, could it be the new food they started to eat? they eat dry food, i tried giving them Whiskas a few months ago but they got diarrhea, now they're eating Purina. They don't seem sick, they play, run, and been eating and driking water like always, but i guess they can't digest the new food, should i change them back to their normal food (Friskies)?

Hi there...chances are that Bon Bon and Chata are vomiting as a result to the sudden food changes. When switching to a new brand of cat food it is also important to note that sudden changes can cause sever bowel distress. Cats have very sensitive digestive systems so the quick change will cause bouts of diarrhoea and vomiting. Any vet can confirm this fact. Cat food should be changed gradually by mixing the current brand with the new brand over the course of several weeks. For example you would take 3/4 servings of the old cat food to 1/4 servings with the new for one week...then the next week 1/2 to 1/2...then following 1/4 of the old to 3/4 of the new in the third week before completing the switch in the final week. http://www.peteducation.com:80/article.cfm?cls=1&cat=1399&articleid=1155

Change the food to a good quality food. You feed less of it, it is much more nutritious, and it won't make your cats sick. If you want to know what is in the food you are giving your cat, beware, the stuff that is in it will make you sick just to read it.
By-products can be anything, including road kill, diseased dead animals, dead dogs or cats from shelters, vets, etc. This is not an extreme attempt to get you to change. This is just the simple truth. Whiskas uses Ethoxyquin as a preservative. It is made by the Monsanto company and the employees have to wear protective gear to handle it. Then there are the dyes and sugars, (beet pulp) to cover up the bad taste so the cats will love it. Most pet food manufacturers hire chemists, not nutritionists, to make their pet foods. There are quality foods out there. Go to the site below and give yourself an education on pet food for the love of your cats. Best to you and them.

The best thing to do is ask your vet for some special food. They'll adjust to that, and then start sneaking in some normal cat food. If that doesn't work, try a bit of wet food. Maybe the food is too dry. Try giving them a bit of milk, mixed with water. Or, if all else fails, try giving them bubbly water, it seems to soothe humans and animals stomachs. Also, check if they aren't sick.

It might be harsh for there stomachs to suddenly change from one food to another. I know friskies is really good-quality cat food and is easy to digest, but most purina is harder for kittens to digest. They could just be throwing up like cats do sometimes though. Every day i find a pile of cat throw up somewhere in the house, blah.

If it started when you changed food, then chances are it's the new food. Purina, Friskies, and Whiskas are pretty crappy foods, so consider getting something higher quality for them like Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance, Evo, or similar. Iams, Science Diet, Eukanuba, and similar are not high quality, just high priced.

My cat vomits partially digested food as well, but it's vet food. It's possible that it's hard to digest, but they could also have worms. Try switching back to the normal food and if they keep throwing up, take them to a vet and ask about deworming.

I have to agree Purina isn't great. I had to take one of my cat's to the vet for constipation because of it. Being a student it really sucked having a huge vet bill and I'm sure my cat didn't enjoy her enima. I'd call the vet- I also recommend Royal Canin cat food, It's somewhat pricey, but worth it.

for one thing you shouldn't change food completely from one kind to another you should mix them and gradually change their food from one kind to another. If they are throwing up that much I would suggest taking them to the vet you should have when the first cat started to get sick. They could have feline leukimia and they are both going to die if that is the case. Bring the cats to a vet ASAP

Purina is a horrible pet food.
Filled with by-products (feet, head, beak)
And too much grain

I recommend you feed them something else.
I feed my cat Nutro.
It's recommended by vets, and the AKC.
