I developed phobia when I was 19 or 20 and somehow managed to get over it.
It came back when I was under A LOT of stress in August and hasn't gone away.
I have good days and bad days.
Its a phobia of my heart.
I'm not sure if its a phobia of it stopping or of it beating or both.
Does anybody else have this problem?
I've been taking a herbal remedy called Kalms but I don't want to rely on them and I know this is all in my mind and keep telling myself that but I can't stop thinking about it.
I would never harm myself because I have too much to live for with my partner, son and dog.
They keep me going.
Its so hard though.

I don't exactly have a phobia of my heart stopping, but many times I feel like I can't breath and the first thing I think is, "Oh my god I'm dying. My heart has stopped I'm going to heaven and I'm dying" And then I'm fine. The time for you to die will come when it comes. It's just not right now. So when you feel you heart might have stopped, try to ignore it, and keep on going. Cause if it's your time to go, you will, but you will go gracefully with not a thought about it in the world. Enjoy life to it's fullest extent, because you partner, son, and dog keep it beautiful.

I doubt if the herbal remedy is going to work (but I hope it does, for your sake). You might want to try St. John's Wort, if you're into herbal stuff, some people say it's good for depression and anxiety, but it might be part of the stuff you're taking, so maybe you've already tried it. It would be even better if you went to a medical doctor and told him or her how you feel. I never heard of that before, but people have all kinds of phobias, and medication can help. It probably is "all in your mind" but that doesn't mean you don't need help. There's nothing wrong with relying on medication--if it helps you, why would that be a problem?

This sounds like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Not all people with OCD have rituals like hand washing. I have OCD and my symptoms are mostly strange phobias that are constantly on my mind. Unfortunatly herbal remedies do not work for OCD. If your symptoms are too much for you to deal with, you need to see a doctor. Im on Anafranil. It works wonders for OCD. Good luck.
