You will file one federal return, either jointly with your husband or as married filing separately. A joint return is almost always your better bet.

For state, if you had income in both IL and PA, you'd have to file two state returns, each as a part-year resident showing the income you made while you lived there.

If you owe and don't have the money to pay, file on time anyway - that way you'll at least avoid late-filing penalties.

You can only deduct medical expenses that are over 7.5% of your income, so I'm guessing they don't meet that. Also, you only deduct medical expenses if you itemize your deductions. You get a standard deduction of $10,300 if you file jointly, and would only itemize if you have more deductions than that, which you probably do not.

Call the IRS they will help you get the correct forms mailed to you. Actually, for medical bills, you will file for them next year since you will pay this year.

Judy sounds correct. Your medical bills even if you could file for them would not make up for your standard deduction anyway.

you may desire to stay a 20 states and it does not have any impact on your Federal return. As to state returns, you will record an element 300 and sixty 5 days return for each state, claming the earnings which you earned together as a resident there.
