Just bought a new HD flat screen tv. Of course "they" wanted to sell me the world but I'd thought I'd check with you all first. From the initial hookup to the cable box, from the cable box to the tv: what is the best cable to use to optimize my viewing pleasure?

Initial hookup to the cable box - usually is coax, and the cable company takes care of that ( make sure they use at least RG-6)

From the cable box to the TV - from best to worst:: HDMI, DVI, component, S-Video, composite, coax cable. HDMI and DVI pass the digital signal through so the TV does not have to do any conversion, while the rest take the digital signal and change it back to analog. The TV has to take the analog signal and convert back to digital before displaying it so you should go with HDMI or DVI if possible. HDMI will pass the audio also so you won't need a separate audio hookup. With everything else (except the old coax) you will need to hook up audio from your box to your tv. Audio connection from best to worst - Digital optical, digital coax, Red and While RCA.

Don't waste your money on premium cable(s). I was able to pick up a $10 HDMI cable from ebay and it works just as well as the $40 one I got from wal mart. If your run is short ( 6 feet) I doubt you will see a difference.

The best specification for coax cable is RG6 QUAD shield that can handle a 3.0 GHz signal. When I had 25 feet of cheap cable the HD channels had problems with pixelation and temporarily freezing due to part of the RF signal going through the insulation and starting to interact with the outer conductor of the cable.

I went on Ebay and bought a " Monster" HDMI" to DVI cable for $54, as compared to $179 at The Source. Mine is new also. Those old component cables were made for analog applications, unless you buy expensive gold shielded component cables. My cable box had a the
HDMI connection, and my Sony LCD HDTV had a DVI connection. I had to buy a cable with two different ends on it. If you also have a Home theatre system, hook an audio cable(left&right) from the audio out on your cable box to the appropriate audio in on your receiver. Good luck

Best cable to use to go from the wallplate to the cable box is RG6 cable. Then from the cable to the tv i would go with the HDMI cable if the cable box supports it. If not go with DVI or component cable.

S-Video or that new HD connection if your DVD and cable box supports it. Whateever it's called. The cord is like $20

It is to HDTV what FireWire is to a computer.

S-Video is like USB 2.0 to a computer.

La última vez quería un cable que conecta mi ordenador al televisor, el cable que me ha llegado corresponde con su descripción, tiene buena transmisión digital, es bastante resistente y una buena calidad y todo a un precio muy bueno, como siempre una excelente compra.
