First you need a clicker and some soft treats. A clicker makes a clicking sound and you use it everytime your dog does something right. You can get one at petsmart for like 50 cents. Anyways, when you get your clicker, start clicking your clicker while giving your dog small bits of treats so that they learn that when they hear the clicker, treats are coming. Do this for about 1 minute. Now, try and catch your dog in the act of barking. Once you hear him barking, instantly rush to him and say GOOD SPEAK in a high pitched happy voice, click your clicker, give him a treat and show it lots of love and attention. Do this everytime he barks and after a while start telling him to Speak. If you did it enough, he will remember speak means bark so he will bark. Click your clicker and give him a treat. If he doesnt just keep catching him in that act until he knows what it means. Once he learns what speak means, keep telling him to speak for about 15 mins. a day so he memorizes it. Also try making him speak when you are doing something good. For example, if he likes going on walks and he is eager to go out, tell him to speak and if he does reward him by taking him out for the walk. You will have to be consistent in doing this but it isnt too hard.

1. Be in a situation where you know the dog is prone to barking.
2. Have treats ready.
3. When he barks, say "Yes!" and reward.
4. Repeat.
5. Add the cue when you'd bet $20 that the dog will do it.
6. Keep rewarding the behavior when you ask for it!

The trick with teaching your dog to speak is to find something that makes them bark. For example, if your dog barks when someone rings the doorbell, then plan it out to have a friend ring your doorbell, and tell your dog to "speak" the instant she rings the doorbell. Then give him a treat and praise him. If you do this several times, your dog will eventually learn to associate the command with barking.
My dog barks when people wrestle and play rough. So to teach her the command, I kept some treats in my pocket and had a friend with me. We'd act like we were wrestling while I was giving the command "speak", and as soon as she barked, I gave her the treat and praised her. After doing this several times, she picked up on the command.

Well with my dog Dusty, I started by showing him a treat in my hand, and having him sit. I would give him the treat, and pull out another one. After he was sitting patient, I would quickly slap my hands on my thighs and give him a little bark or growl. It may take a few tries. If that doesnt work, notice things that make him bark, a squeaking toy for instance, and when you finally got him to bark, make sure you pet him continuously so he notices the added attention!
