I wish I spent more time in high school doing things I enjoyed instead of obsessing over my grades. Life is short. Don't let perfection get in the way of living. Be more well-rounded in your education, and don't let numbers dictate your life.

I'm going to assume she's talking about test grades on teacher-made tests, but the thoughts below probably apply to grades on essays, etc., as well as grades on standardized tests (though the latter don't usually get percentage grades).

The only way someone is honestly going to get 100 as a test grade every time is by either reading the teacher's mind or thinking exactly like the teacher (and as a former teacher, I shudder to consider either of those options!)

Tests are an imperfect attempt to sample all the knowledge a class has acquired from the material covered by the test. Test questions are often imperfect -- open to interpretation, having more than one good answer, etc. Some teachers grade tests on a curve rather than with number percentages precisely because they question whether there is a valid "100 percent" point from which to measure.

Cut off points for translating percentage grades into letter grades vary a lot. A 92 in one school (or teacher's class) may be an A, it may be a B+ or a B. Regardless, it's a good grade. D's and F's are bad grades.

That's the rational answer. But I'm not sure your friend's opinion is rational -- it seems more emotional, and a little unhealthy. Maybe someone (a parent?) has taught her to feel inadequate if she's less than perfect, creating a value system in which the only choices are "perfect" or "bad". Or maybe she's seeking attention by awfulizing a good-but-less-than-perfect grade (sort of like fishing for a compliment or seeking reassurance). Not clear why she thinks this way, but if she's really serious about it, she could use some good counseling before she faces the real world.

Tell her 92% is not a bad grade it's like a A or a B people make mistakes and she doesn't have to get all the answers right it will barely effect her grade.

Well, 92 is a B grade. If you think As are the only good grades, then a 92 is bad.

Tell her that you don't always have to be perfect. You can't afford to be perfect and you shouldn't kill yourself over a 92! People would die for that grade. Maybe she is just upset that she studied so much and just got an A-. Sometimes I get that way too, but you have to get back up from the blow and keep on trying and never give up. Tell her what you feel and sometimes the truth hurts but it is worth hearing.

omg, no offense but ur friend sounds like a geek. i am brainy but only under an 80 is a bad grade. this girl must be smart to have such high goals. lol. you should tell it doesnt always matter if u get a 100. people arent always going to be perfect and sometimes people have dull moments. tell her that a 92 is awsome and that setting such high goals like that can stress her out. also give her encouragement and tell her she is smart.

She may be a profectionist and/or very smart and believe that anything below a 92 is bad.

If you got a 92, just let her know that you worked hard for your grade and are satisfied with it. You may leave it at that or you could also add that you don't care for her belittling your effort.

Tell her shes too smart and she should start accepting that a 92 is a bad grade. Remind her that any thing below 70 is bad

it all depends on how hard you work on something. if you worked really hard on something maybe less than a 100 doesn't cut it. but if you put no effort than you cant always expect high grade not that 92 is horrible, but it just all depends on how much effort is put forth. hope that helped...
