Can I e-file (state and federal) though I am filing tax for the first time?

Absolutely.
You may also be eligible to file your returns for free. Check the IRS website and click on "2007 Free File". Some services offer free state filing as well. If the services that you qualify for do not offer free state filing, you should try your state's Dept. of Revenue website and see if they offer it.
If you want to electronically sign your return, you'll need last year's AGI and a self-selected PIN. Since you don't have a prior AGI, you can just put "0". DO NOT leave this line blank! If you do your e-file will be rejected.
If you don't want to electronically sign the return, you can still e-file. You'll just have to print and fill out form 8453-OL and mail it to the IRS.

They will ask you what you social security number is, your date of birth, and last years adjusted gross income. Since you did not file last year you would need to use 0. If you do enter the correct amount it will kick it out of the efile system. If your social security number or name does not match exactally what the IRS has on file it will kick it out as well. You can prepare your entire return and efile for free on taxact.com

Yes I did this with e-fax but there is some Identity checking that IRS will ask you to do in order to secure your identity. Check out there main site for more info

Don't do it through H&R Block. It was free for the past two years, and now the bastards charged me 20 bucks. Screw them.
