I believe there's so much ignorance in those who don't know the difference between the two testaments!! as you see many of the things written in the old testament were strictly for a specific group of people but mostly Jews!!

I've been reading several comments about the Old testament, of course full of ignorance and misunderstanding!!

I encourage you to study both testaments.

The old testament is the key to understand the New testament and vice-verse.

some people make stupid questions about the bible - and FYI, if you want to understand the bible you must have the Holy Spirit in you. otherwise you will not understand it.

God is the same yesterday today and forever. I have studied it and I share your frustration with fellow Christians who have not realized which laws apply to us Gentiles grafted in.
I lay the biggest part of the blame on folks not wanting to follow the Berean example, having itching ears, leaders trying to pass off the lucrative tithe/salaried pastor system as if modern ministers are Levitical priests worthy to recieve a tithe in the place of Christ who is our only High Priest and our only sacrifice who said the poor shall have the gospel preached to them. I've never heard anyone explain to me how the gospel can be free of charge but there's a "legal" charge you are to give "voluntarily" and how the modern Gentile moneychangers changed the three types of tithes used to support a theocracy with it's widows, poor and orphans, and changed the blood of bulls and goats to money, changed the agricultural offerings (not all occupations tithed) to 10% of one's income, directed it to a modern church building or a one man system or a heirarchy of leadership (not Biblical) and still call it a tithe!! I say quit taking those ceremonial ordinances down from the cross Jesus nailed them too!! We are dead to that law. Free from it. Researching the differences between the "laws" also gave me a brand new understanding of the Word (I agree with you) and a deeper appreciation for the Priesthood role and the Sacrificial role of Jesus Christ, the Lamb that is worthy.

One favorite study I did was about God's favorite "law" breakers. (widow woman with two mites, David, His disciples, Himself, etc.) That clued me in to the fact that not every reference to the "law" was the same nor was the references to judgment traced back to the same meaning just as today the same word has more than one meaning. Study helps are free and convenient in bookstores and on-line.
Also, if Jesus referenced the old covenant in all His answers and to fight the temptation of satan, you will find it wasn't really a "new" law but a new and better covenant. Christ is the end of the law. I never understood Paul about the law until this study was completed. Keep encouraging people to learn the difference. The anti-Christ spirit is always attacking the Word and trying to confuse Christians. We must study to shew ourselves approved unto God and to give an answer for the hope within us. Since I did this study, I see the Bible as a whole and not as two completely different books that seem so different. God bless and open up new mysteries every day to you as you and all our fellow Christians grow in the faith.

Many Jews prefer not to use the words "old" and "new" for the so called "Old Testament" and "New Testament," because that usage implies that one was replaced by the other.

I'll refer to them as the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Bible

It is true that many things in the Hebrew Bible were and still are strictly for the Jews, but the monotheistic belief is that many of these things are for Chirstians and humankind (for example, don't murder, don't steal, don't commit adultry). The entire foundation for Christianity and much of Western civilization's legal and ethical standards are based on ideas in the Hebrew Bible.

If one takes the time to study the Hebrew Bible and learn from others who have seriously studied it on a teaching or professional level, he will find that there are layers of meaning to be uncovered beyond the simple meaning. One will also find that understanding comes from having an open mind to discover why these texts have survived for 2 to 3 thousand years, and that often the meaning of verses can't be properly understood without considering what was being said in the surrounding verses or chapter. Unfortunately, this is how many try to pick apart the Bible by just looking at a verse out of context.

The biggest difference between the so called Old and New Testaments is that the first five books of the Hebrew Bible are considered by believers to be the words of G-d dictated to Moses while the main books of the Christian Bible are narratives told by men.

"some people make stupid questions about the bible - and FYI, if you want to understand the bible you must have the Holy Spirit in you. otherwise you will not understand it."

Does circular logic ever stop with christians? You must read the bible to get the holy spirit, but you must have the holly spirit to understand the bible....

It's also pretty convenient when you can simply claim that someone "doesn't have the holy spirit", because their interpretation is different than yours. Sounds alot like the no true scottsman fallacy.

Actually the things written in the OT are for everyone who desires to serve Yah (God). The NT is not called His Word, but both testaments are. Therefore if one wishes to follow His Word, they must realize that both Testaments are for them or else stop calling the OT His Word if they don't accept it as His Word for them.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Paul says all scripture is profitable for doctrine, correction, instruction in righteousness, etc. He didn't say only the NT is. Plus, consider this fact that when he wrote this, the OT was the only scripture they had because the NT did not exist as a canon of scripture. Thus, Paul is talking about the OT.

The Old Testament was a foreshadowing of things to come. It told of the beatings that Jesus was to suffer etc. This was told to the Jewish peoples so they would accept Jesus as Emmanuel, but God already knew they wouldn't. As stated in Psalms: My inheritance will be the heathen.

Um...how do you get the Holy Spirit in you if you don't understand the Bible first?

Are you just trying to admit that other people may have better intellectual arguments?

Look, if you deny the old testament, you're denying part of the god that you believe in. You can't believe some of your religion and not the rest. You're either Christian or not and the old testament talks about Adam and Eve.

So, are you Christian, or aren't you Christian? You can't deny whatever doesn't happen to suit you at the time.

Its not a matter of confusion, its a matter of it being ALL Christianity whether some of you Christians like to admit it or not. You can't pick and choose or you aren't Christian.

So basically you completely ignore every law in the OT? So if that's the case, why do YOU preach against homosexuals? I'm very curious to know. Because it seems to me that you've just painted yourself into a corner. :-)
