If you really want to stop, you will.
Medication will definitely help you. An antidepressant or anti-anxiety drug will help your brain regulated the messengers that are too few right now. That's why you cut, it's the body's only way to get those calming neurotransmitters.
You need to find some natural ways to get you brain to manufacture those again. I found that proper diet, and especially exercise will stimulate the release of brain chemicals that will bring you peace and calm. Then it's easy to not think about hurting yourself.
Best of luck to you. I know what you are facing and I know it's tough. I also know you are strong enough to put it behind you.

First I would start looking for a good therapist. In the mean time you could try journaling everytime you feel like cutting. Write about what you are feeling and why you think you are feeling that way. Then write about how much you want to stop cutting and why. You should also keep number to support people handy. Do you have a friend that know your problem, is trustworthy and wants to help? Most crisis hotlines can also help provide a distraction when ever you experience the impulse to cut. They probably have lots more ideas on how to stop as well.

Good for you. It is very hard to want to give up something that is so comforting. You will need qualified professional help to stop. You need to work through whatever it is that makes you want to cut in the first place. In the meantime, throw away all of your cutting implements. I know I used to hide them all over the place for those "just in case" moments. If you don't have them available, you will have to find something else to do, like going for a walk, journalling, screaming at the top of your lungs, or whatever else is less destructive.

Cutting is usually a symptom of some other emotional issue. Sometimes people cut to feel because they often experience a sense of numbness and emptiness. Cutting releases endorphins which are the feel good neurotransmitters that often runners talk about that gives them that "runner's high"....i.e., a sense of euphoria and well-being. It might be good to find a therapist in your area who treats cutters and people who self-mutilate.

First seek some professional help, second invest in rubber bands, keep one on your wrist and every time you think about cutting snap it, trust me it helps and lastly I know it sounds stupid but every time you think negatively about yourself stop and think of at least three positive things about yourself and how you are a worthy person.

i've been here, for about 22 years now. ive found that counseling helps alot, and that staying busy, doing things you enjoy or picking up a new hobby will keep you from thinking about bad things or being depressed. its a hard thing to do when you dont feel like it, but it is for the best and life is worth living without being in emotional and physical pain all the time. please talk to someone about it, you will feel better. good luck!

You need to get help from someone who can get to the root of the problem. Cutting is a consequence of a deeper problem
