First of all you need to buy one of the phone recorder machines . you can get them at radio shack or online. Your can recorde any threating phone calls the play it to the police and file a report. also you can play ift for the FTC. Also if you know how to get ahold of the debt collector you can got to the head boss anyd play them a copy. Check out this site . If it doesn't help type in phone recorder under search at radio shacks website.Good luck

The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act is the governing body for the entire collection industry. Do an on line search for a "Cease and Desist" letter. You should send this letter to the original creditor and the collection agency.
Within this letter include a statement that you intend to record all future phone contacts to use against all parties for harassment.
You will probably never hear from the agency or the original creditor again. However if you should be contacted again you then can contact a collections attorney to file a lawsuit against the collection agency. There is a $10,000.00 fine for all FDCPA violations.

Go to AnnualCreditReport.com and pull your credit report for free. The collection agency's phone number or address will be on the credit report. Legally, they don't have to stop calling you if you tell them verbally. You have to mail the cease and desist letter. Let them knw if this doesn't stop, you will take legal action against them. Mail it certified mail. Start documenting any harrassing phone calls, record them if you can.

You can file a complaint with your Attorney General and BBB.

Federal Trade Commission, Better Business Bureau (BBB), state attorney general, or local attorney. Collectors are NEVER allowed to raise their voice at you or swear under any circumstances. You are well within your rights to take legal action against them for doing this no matter how much you owe!

I'd go to the Better Business Buerau, and then I'd also contact my local police department. Have you tried going to management or supervision of this bill collecting place? Tell them politely to stop calling or you will put a harrasement case against them. Definately go to your local police department first, so they can tap you phone and then really get this person in trouble! GOOD LUCK!!!

The FDCPA offers several ways to stop a collection agency from harassing and abusive contact:

A fair Debt Collection site offers similar info to above, in plain speak and offers additional ways to stop debt collectors harassment including probably one of the more important methods...written demand that they cease their contact with you.

If you have proof they are using your information inappropriately it is probably best to seek legal council to deal with this. Check the sites first and go from there.

Good luck

Your state's Attorney General. The next time the collector calls, instruct him that he is not to call again; if he does so, he can be prosecuted and that you will do so.

Learn to take control. They try to intimidate dont let them. Tell them you will no longer take their calls and that you demand to be reached by mail only. By law they must follow or they are violating your rights. Every time they get loud hang up. I studied Biz Law you have rights.

I thought that once you told them not to call again then they had to stop. Try and contact your state Attorney generals office.
