It's a new "toy" for him....try bitter apple spray, or keep an eye on him and tell him NO when he goes near it.

It's something new for him, also it's the smell of the leather. It is animal skin and his chews are made of the same material. In dog world there is no difference. Keep him out of that room when you're not in it and consistently punish him when he does start chewing while you're there. As time goes by he'll realize the difference.

this is a problem with some dogs. and it started by giving the dog raw hide bones to chew on. and they know leather ,even if it is a chair. when any one have leather furniture and give their dogs raw hide bones then you get this behavior. l never gave my dog a raw hide bone because l was afraid the would get a small piece off and get it stuck in their thoat. and my leather chair and otterman is still like new. so that is why your dog is doing this now. and l would say to get some spray and that will help.

Okay one thing dogs love to chew is LEATHER!
I don't know why but they do, i think it's cuz it feels good on their teeth. You should try to put hot souse on the sofa and once he tastes it he'll never want to chew it again. mark my word!:)
