Your best bet is to connect in Chicago, ORD, for a direct flight to London.

I control eastbound departures off of the Chicago Metro area and there are quite a few flights going to the London area, at almost anytime of day.

Good luck

Here are three examples, changing in three different US cities:
Delta 4422 to Atlanta
Delta 12 to London Gatwick

United 7353 to Chicago O'Hare
United 928 to London Heathrow

Delta 5271 to Cincinnati
Delta 36 to London Gatwick

There are also flights that take two connections. I recommend against those on overseas flights - too many opportunities to lose luggage or miss flights.

There are many flights from O'Hare to London - that's just one example above. Looks like Atlanta, O'Hare and Cincinnati are your best bets for hubs. Cincinnati is easier to navigate. Atlanta is most out of the way from having a direct flight.

Think about where you want to go in London. Does it make more sense to land at Gatwick (south side) or Heathrow (west side)?
