I need something to install to be able to do my school work and I don't have the kind of extra money lying around to purchase the software.

Open Office...its pretty good....although i recomend getting office from a freind or from a peer-to-peer program (eg limewire - look for a file called "microsoft office xp pro (word, excel....publisher 2005")
