The answers for this question are very disturbing to me. People from all different kinds of backgrounds join the military. We are not stupid, nor are we the bottom of society. Some of you should be ashamed. You have no idea the dedication and sacrifice it takes to be a soldier or a soldier's family member. It takes a special person. The military is full of special people that have the courage to do a job that most won't do. I am so disgusted right now. To answer the question posed, yes, I get mad when anyone calls soldier's stupid. It shows their IQ which is 0.

I know how you feel. People looked at me funny when i joined with a masters from the University of Pennsylvania. I had a good job, but i wanted to serve in the military. I don't care about the left or the right, but it does offend me when people think the military is stupid. I try not to let people on these boards offend me too much, as i know most are only trying to get a rise out of people and some are the ones that are truly armchair generals and armchair presidents. Im tired of the democrats and republicans saying that we need to come up with a new plan or a new direction in iraq. Its time they got along and actually stated their intentions, than we could make a decision. We have a good political system, they just have to stop trying for their political party and start fighting for a better America.

The left is not calling you stupid, but in fact the right stupid. The reason that many people believe that the military ist stupid is becuase of the fact that most of it comprises of poor, disenfranchised, or otherwise the bottom rungs of the american capitlaistic system. The kind of kids wo drop out of school and then join the military. it is what Mr. Kerry was referrnig to h=in his speech. And of course like all sterotypes, it is not true as we can see by your examlpe as you did get a dgree from a respected university. The thins is that most people dont understand why an educated or middle class person would join the army instead of joing a busniess or going to work somwhere in industry or science. But you chose to serve yor country for which I have the utmost respect for. People just view the army in a negative light in terms of a job. It does not mean that I dom, but it just is a simple fact that it seems to be a job done by the poor and stupid which is why people like you are doing the right thing by venting your frustrations

I am not in the military but I have two nephews over there. One graduated from RIT in computers and the other is going for his thrid tour there. I get angry at most of what the leftists say about war, Iraq, the military etc. They would let terrorists and illegals walk all over us.

Sir, thank you for serving your country. Sadly, the world is so full of idiots on all sides that some will never understand. Many lefties in the US feel that we owe radical Muslim killers an apology for making them so mad that we forced them to kill thousands on 9/11. This is their insanity. And, many joined the reserves just to get college money. They did not and do not want to fight anyone, anytime, anywhere for any reason -- even though they swore an oath.

Not everybody in the military is right wing. My father is a retired veteran...Vietnam, and he hates Bush and the war in Iraq. He also has a degree in History from CSU. My uncle is a retired brigadier general with a law degree from KU. He was also in the JAG. He hates Bush, disagrees with the war in Iraq, and when they tried to up his daughter and send her to Iraq, he crossed out her name, and put down his own. Stop generalizing. I have several friends that are serving over in Iraq, and they hate the war and Bush.

Well, your question is related to presumptions yet you make one yourself. You say people on the left. If I had to pick a side I would be one leaning to the left. I do disagree with the war. However, I do also respect the soldier. So please, avoid making presumptions in a question aimed at those making presumptions.

No, I thought at the time it made zero sense to look for WMD that INTEL guys (yeesh: look at the track record: didn't predict Korea, didn't predict Czech in '68, didn't predict Afghanistan in '79, didn't predict the fall of WarPac in '89. There's something institutionally wrong with the intelligence community.) said was there. And said so. I fully expected to plan to hit terrorist camps in Somalia-THAT made strategic sense. Deny safe haven for Al Qaeda and their financiers/supporters.
Let's face it, we went in on bad intel-I totally reject it was deliberate deception, but there was obviously no true discussion of the issues.
Using the criteria of Cheney and his cronies, we should have actually attacked N Korea-they DEFINITELY have WMD, they are proud of it, and have threatened to use it.
