Self government is better than being a colony. You pay taxes to a foreign power as a colony and it is not a good situation. Instead, create a government and collect taxes then directly apply the benefits to the people.

because of the british imperialism that controlled american international and inter colonial trade. The self government was rather for political freedom and not for economic freedom.

because they were being opressed by british troops bullying them around in their daily lives and had unfair taxes imposed on them by the bank of england .. along with having their own currency that worked very well outlawed ....
