If it has airbrakes you need a license for that vehicle in the US. If you are in the US, don't have a license for airbrakes, and passenger endorsement you shouldn't drive a school bus

Hi: I'm a school bus driver and have been for the past 3 years. If you are serious about wanted to drive a school bus then you will need to go to the company or school in which are hireing, and apply. You need to let them know that you have no prior experience with commercial driving. They will let you know the requirements for their state. Usually, depending on the state, you will need a certin class of CDL accompanied with endorcements, and certificates. The company should always provide you with this information and behind the wheel training. You will first have to get a CDL permit, "by taking the written CDL driving test" then the company should provide the specifect size of bus you will be driving for your behind the wheel training. When you do this training, the trainer will go over everthing with you about the air brakes. Take it from me, a mannuel will not do it for ya, only hands on training will provide you with the knowloge and skills you need. Some states also require a School Bus Driving Certificate, along with a "medical card" "physical exam" along with other courses which require a certin amount of hours every year. You will also need a "S" Endorcement and a "P" Endorcement. The "S" is a School Bus endorcement and the "P" which is the Passenger endorcement, and no air brake restrictions, these are now required in all 50 states..........Driving a School bus is alot of work as well as alot of fun. It takes a great deal of multitasking as well as concentration.........take it from someone who has drove in 3 different states and driven, 1 year olds on up to High schoolers....and Special needs.............good luck,,,,,! What state are you in ?

Ok...I have kids who ride in school buses and the thought of someone driving the bus who learnt to do so through yahoo answers is kinda creepy. As for the air brakes there is way too much involved to explain, there are air brake courses you can take if you seriously need to know.

in order to operate a bus with passengers you need a class 2 licence with a Q endorsement (air brake endoresement), you will have to take an air brake course and a class 2 licence test.

Your best bet would to be either get a booklet from the DMV (or you can get it off their website) or talk to someone who knows how to drive a bus. Hopefully the person you can talk to (if you knwo someone) can also give you some pointers and maybe even teach you how to drive it or ride along with you. Then you would have to get behind the wheel training, take a driving test to get your license. Good luck!

You need a CDL license to drive a school bus and it is different from driving a public transit bus.

You need training. If you are going to take the lives of children into your hands...reading a manual isn't going to do it. You have a responsibility. Contact the local bus company and ask them about where to get driver training.
