we have custoday of our grandson..we are in the process of beginning a nasty family court battle..we have had him for 1 1/2 years..neither parent has really had much involvment with him..they pay no support..the one parent had supervised visitation up until recentaly and is now casueing us major grief and heart ache..our lawyer who we will meet with on friday said somethihg that we have a case for adoption without parental consent..he didnt expound on this..has anyone heard of this???

I think it all depends on whether or not the parent with visitation rights has made any efforts on improving his or herself. Whether it's getting a better job in order to provide for the child. If the parent is emotionally and physically capable of raising a child. The courts always want to give the birth parents the opportunity to raise their own children if and only if they qualify as good parents. Stability in the home, no drug or alcohol abuse, or physical abuse, no mental health problems, etc. I have known grandparents who have adopted their grandchildren. It does happen, but it is somewhat difficult when the birth parents are holding you back. I say, don't give up. You stepped up to the plate when his own parents didn't. You are his parents if you ask me. Just make sure that your "child" doesn't pick up on your stress from all of this. I don't know how old he is, but some children might sense your stress and think it is his fault. Good luck.

I have custody of my grandchildren, but will be going to court in Feb. to relinquish rights back to the mother. I know this is the right thing to do.

I live with my grandparents and they love me more then ever and try to make me feel that my parents weren't killed in a huge fire
