Just go to the doctor, tell him what you have taken, the dosages, and how effective (or not) they were. You may have built up a tolerance to over the counter pain killers, and you don't want to do that with opiates. Maybe there is something wrong that needs to be checked out. If you can't go to the doctor, you might try Percogesic. Its acetaminophen and phenyltoloxamine, and works okay for me on some bad headaches. It'll make you really sleepy though, and only works a little better.

Motrin 800 is not available without a prescription. That is prescription strength. You can get 200mg tablets OTC, but you'd have to take 4 of them.
The real thing to find out is not which pain killers to take, but what is causing your headaches and backaches. All the pain killers do is mask the pain in most cases. It is still there when it wears off, and then you take more, and more, and more. Eventually, your liver takes a beating. (Vicodin and most other prescription pain killers contain Tylenol, which is very tough on the liver.)
If your regular doctor won't help, ask to be referred to a headache specialist. You could have a spine/neck problem. You could need eyeglasses. It could be stress.
Don't self medicate. See a doctor. Get checked out. Find the source of the pain, and get that taken care of.

You're taken the strongest OTC stuff around.
No, you can't go to your doctor and ask for Vicodin or for any other particular pain med. But you can and should go to your doctor to discuss your pain and to start having it investigated. Once it has been properly and completely diagnosed, you and your health care team can begin to work together to find the optimal, for you and for now, combination of management techniques for your pain.
The thing is, there are ways to do this and there are ways to not do this. And you really want to find the ways to do it. You've just been given the only real way - by being diagnosed first.

If you are having such bad headaches that over the counter medications are not working, then it is time to talk to your health care provider. While he or she may not believe that Vicodin is the best medication to treat headaches (and by the way, it isn't), there are many prescriptions medications that help alleviate headaches. This all depends on what type of headaches you are experiencing: clusters, migraines, tension, etc. Your health care provider can help you in finding out the source of or type of headaches and then find the appropriate treatment for them.

You should stay away from any prescribed drugs for pain. They are addictive. There are several pain relief creams available that work. It is best to use those, because they won't injure your stomach or vital organs. Go to bed with a heating pad. You will be surprised how good you'll feel. A persistent headache could be serious. Get it checked.

Acupuncture and a healthy diet can work wonders on even the worst of recurring migraines, and cure them for good.
Pills never worked for me, but becoming vegetarian did.
