Once, the pledge of allegiance did not have the "under God" part. Now it does.

It's not that I'm offended by it, but I have a lot of friends who feel uncomfortable about that part (some are even Christian). It sounds too heavy and ominous.

Change it back. I'm for changing it.

The Official Pledge of Allegiance should be changed to remove "Under God" for several reasons:

1) to acknowledge the original author's intent and respect his words
2) because the "Under God" violates the separation of Church and State.
3) because it is appallingly bad grammer.

That said, people should be understanding and tolerant to those who wish to include "Under God" in their recitation.

It doesn't really matter to me. But on a more personal level, I really wish people would be honest about it. You are right, the original did not have "under God" in it. A lot of people will deny that fact, though. We honestly can't claim to be under any single "God" or even many. This is a secular nation full of different people with different beliefs.

You're too young to understand the words " It sounds too heavy and ominous." Once you have been in a bomb shelter hoping and praying that bombs won't hit your house THEN see if you change your mind. When the Japanese hit the harbor they didn't care if they hit women men and children. Even the Atheists prayed for mercy. I say leave it...

It was added because the government believes this country was founded on Christian principles. The government won't mandate you believing them but this is how our country was founded.

Yep. It needs to be changed back. It was an awful time in our history when the pledge was changed. I can't believe that nobody pointed out the first amendment and its establishment clause to congress when they changed the pledge. This should have gone to the supreme court and been straightened out back then. "God", as added to the pledge by congress, is clearly the judeo-christian god, and ( I quote) "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion".

Adding the judeo christian god to the pledge is clearly an attempt to establish the judeo christian religions at the state religion.

"Under God" was a great idea. Would you rather say "under God" and then find out when you die God wasn't real, or not say "under God," and find out God is quite real?

This country started out being so Christian that the reason they didn't include "under God," because God's reality was so widely understood and accepted. There was no need to include it.

If the entire world other than the US resents our national identity so much, why don't they get on other countries butts that make their various religions official and restrict freedom of speech to the contrary?

They think our tolerance is an open invitation to come here and stick their own flag in our dirt, and try to make our place more like wherever they came from, not to be a part of what made this country so magnificent and powerful. It hurts their egos to accept that there are things to be learned from the U.S.

at first, i was opposed to changing the "under God" part. but i'm not religious now, and i realize that our country has a LOT of different religions that accept God. they have their own "god," which is different from THE God. so...yes, i think they should change it.

Are you scared if you say God He might bite you? You curse and sware and that don't seem to bother you. Why should God bother you? Are you convicted of sin or wrong that you have done? God promises blessings to all that speak good of Him and His name. He is very proud of His name!! He has an excellant reputation. When you speak His name you should speak it worthily. For if He will bless those who speak highly of Him He will surely curse those who speak evil of His name. And that without respect of persons. God respect no one. He is above all.
He is on the throne and He is High and lifted up and His glory fills the earth. Beware lest you be consumed with the fire of His wrath.

Why? Are you afraid of the living in a country that God over-sees?
I think it should stay as it is. And I think you are infringing on my right to say it if you try to take it out. If you don't like it then don't speak it when it comes to that part.

I agree, but you won't get much support because it is "war-time." That's how the words got added in the first place.
