I take my dog with us when we go to visit some relatives, but I always ask first, and I try to let them know that it's fine if they say 'no', because I don't want to impose. If they know my dog, they always say 'yes', because she's been through obedience classes & is very well behaved and quiet. But if anyone were to say no or even hesitate or sound unsure before saying 'yes', I would not bring her. I would never dream of bringing a dog into someone's home without asking permission first!
If our hosts say it's OK, then we bring her soft-sided crate along with us, so she'll have her familiar bed to sleep in, and we can put her up in the crate if we go anywhere without her. This allows our hosts to feel more at ease about having a dog in the house without anyone around. We also brush her thoroughly before we arrive, to reduce shedding. We have cats, so she knows to leave them alone. Basically, I appreciate it when someone makes things easy for me by allowing me to bring my dog, so I try to make it as easy as possible for my host.
It sounds like your inconsiderate visitor should stay in a hotel next time or leave her dog at home. You may want to tell this person that you enjoy their company, but you would appreciate it if they would leave their dog at home the next time they come to visit. You could be honest and tell them that it upsets your cats (it's their home too!), or perhaps you could tell them you've found out that you're allergic to dogs and can't be around them.

I sometimes take my dog (just one of them though!) to my friends house, but only after asking. She has a dog that my dog likes to play with. I would never take a cat-chasing dog to a cat-owners house though. That's rude.
My friend also brings her dog to MY house, but again, she always asks if it's okay. I do watch him around my cats and I lock up the bunny when he comes over, but normally we just let the dogs visit when they can be outside in the yard (when the weather is better).

My boyfriend takes his dog to people's houses, but never if they have an animal other than a dog. And he always asks first. Its the way it should be. but my feelins about bringing a dog into a house where cats live, thats just not right. I mean that IS the cats home. They should not have to be locked in an area the dog cant get to, especially if they normally have the whole house to roam around.

I do, however I have a very calm and passive German Shepherd. She usually comes with me wherever I go. However, if the other owner has cats or any other pet who doesn't like my dog I don't bring her.
Your friends are guests and for them to bring their dogs when you have cats (even if their dogs are okay with cats) is unacceptable. I would politely let them know next time you invite them over that your cats are having health problems due to stress and you would appreciate it if they didn't bring their dogs as it adds to their stress. Sounds like they're not very considerate to begin with or idiots, probably both. If they get upset that's their problem, you're entitled to rules in your own house. Good luck!

We take our dog to friend's houses, we don't even ask cuz our dog is for the most part very well behaved and loved by everyone. She's chased our friends cats around, but never really did anything...it's actually kinda comical to see a beagle baying(beagle bark) after a cat and then pinning it to the ground on it's back as they wrestle.

plenty..they just never come back to get their dogs..in all seriousness, its is proper to ask the homeowner if it's okay to bring a pet that may clash. They may consider you to be such good friends and not think about it, next time things dont go over well, put their pet away, not your pets. It's your pets Home, cats have certain personalities where they may act out bc theyre pissed especially if they dont like the dog already or feel like their territory is being invaded without proper introduction, and your friends aren't properly introducing their pet.

I have taken my dog to other peoples house but only after asking permission for each occassion first. For ex. I ask my parents each and everytime I would like to bring my dog - and they say 99% of the time but occasionally they would prefer I not bring her.
It's only polite to ask, each and everytime unless someone has told you it is ok all the time

I have. I had an old woman to tell me that it is not good manners to bring a dog to someone else's house. Yet it is ok for kids to go to other people's houses? Who is more likely to do more damage?! All a dog will likely do is pee or poop on the carpet. A kid will ransack the place, spill food or drinks, yell, break things, etc. Gee I know which one I WOULDN'T want at my house!
